Reddit and chill?

If there’s one thing we tend not to mention on a first date, it’s all the weird sh*t we scroll through online for hours before bed. It gets weird. It gets dark. It is not widely considered as attractive first date fodder.

But one dating site thinks our internet weirdness could be the exact thing to bring us together. Which is kind of romantic, if you think really hard about it.

Redddate.com is a new dating site that matches people based on the subreddits they subscribe to.

we can go look at crazy things on the internet together

Meaning that rather than dating people who like the generic interestsyou can pick from on most dating sites – like movies or food – you can get reeeeally specific. Because whatever strange thing you can think of, there’s probably a subreddit for it.

Redditor C14L created the website after it was dreamt up by another Redditor, TeaStainsAndTobacco. The site’s been up for a few days and hundreds of Redditors in search of love have already signed up.

It’s still in the early stages, so C14L is working on fixing a few bugs – including the option to choose multiple gender preferences. But it seems pretty easy to use.

You simply sign up using your Reddit login, make sure you’re subscribed to a few subreddits (otherwise you get the very gloomy error message below), and can then start ‘upvoting’ (Reddit-speak for liking) anyone you fancy.

We’re pretty sure we’ll see the first Redddate wedding within the year.

Because seriously, if you’re both into /JGLgiraffes, you know it’s meant to be.
